“Thank You” Would Be Enough

The CEO of Campbell’s Soup has written 30,000 personal thank-you notes to his employees over the last decade. I think that comes out to about 12 a day, every single work day.

Patrick McDonnell, cartoonist of the Mutts comic strip, has a Thanksgiving tradition of running a strip whose only message is a quote from Meister Eckhart: “If the only prayer you ever say in your life is ‘thank you’, it will be enough.”

Sometimes we get too busy worrying about how to make things happen, or grousing about the things that didn’t happen, and sometimes we forget to be grateful for the things that did happen. Tell yourself that you’ll get to the worrying and the grousing once you’re done giving thanks. You won’t ever be done.
