Due to one too many sales, I am the not-very-proud owner of an increasing, and increasingly cheesy, DVD collection.

As my friend told me today, “Casablanca is never going to be in the $5 rack.”

So I’m making myself a list of Classic Films I Love And Must Buy.

Here’s what I’ve got so far. (With help from the AFI listof the best of the century.)

  • Casablanca
  • Gone With the Wind
  • To Kill a Mockingbird
  • The Wizard of Oz
  • Miracle on 34th Street
  • Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
  • Twelve Angry Men
  • The Indiana Jones trilogy

Also, Classics I Really Want To See:

  • Doctor Zhivago
  • The Graduate
  • West Side Story
  • Rear Window
  • A Streetcar Named Desire
  • The Third Man (because it’s on a photo in my office)
  • Bringing Up Baby

Any suggestions?

You can’t forget about Citizen Kane. That is the all-time best. Also, new classics: Rocky, Star Wars Trilogy, Usual Suspects and you may have to include the Lord of the Rings on there too.

The Sting – perhaps not on AFI’s list (I didn’t check) – but it is my favorite movie of all time, vintage Robert Redford and Paul Newman.

I think you left out Princess Bride and Space Balls! *giggle
Ok fine…I think you nailed the list.

Under Classics, may I suggest His Girl Friday and Adam’s Rib (or anything with Tracy and Hepburn) and also Philadelphia Story. All wonderful movies and I will gladly watch them with you any time.
