(With a stream of consciousness and lots of parentheses. Cause that’s how we do round here.)
Ten years ago everyone was convinced the world would end.
(When was the last time you even thought about Y2K? A good reminder of how much time we spend worrying about things that don’t matter.)
While the world didn’t end at the end of 1999
(Obviously.)
(I guess because now that’s supposed to happen in 2012?)
I’m sure you’ve had a couple of moments since where it felt like it was.
Ten years ago I’d just come back from Wroxton. IÂ had no idea what the Aughts would have in store. (Sound familiar?) There’s not enough time or space to explain what they’ve shown me.
And just this year alone, while many wonderful things have happened
(The best of which is that two of my best friends were blessed with three healthy, happy, perfect babies.)
there’s been enough bad things, too.
(The worst of which was that another of my dear friends lost her long battle with cancer.)
I guess the year has had its balance, and so has the decade. Â And even if, as Matt insists, it isn’t technically the end of the decade, it still feels like it.
I’m very, very okay with that. I’m so blessed, I’m so lucky, and so many amazing things have happened, in the last year and in the last decade. But I”m ready to see what’s around the next bend.
There’s a blue moon tonight. Let’s help it start off something good.
(Not least of which, a wonderful wedding for a beautiful girl I’ve known since toddlerhood!)
“In the New Year, may your right hand always be stretched out in friendship and never in want.”
Athbhliain faoi mhaise dhuit!
I like your style here: stream of consciousness that’s reflective and touches upon the important dimensions for 2010 – remembrance, thankfulness, and wonder. Happy new year.
