Third time’s the charm, right?

After Google Buzz and Google Wave, it’s about time Google did social right. I’m not quite sure if it has yet, but I’ll tell you what I like about Google+ so far: it built in the jerry-rigs that I’d been doing on Facebook.

I created five groups and sorted everyone so I could choose who would have access to which parts of my information. This is the whole point of Google+ – personalizing your network the way you do in real life, where instead of broadcasting everything, you actually have different conversations with different groups of people. And that right there impresses the heck out of me.

I’m going to have to see it in action with more of my contacts involved, before I decide what I really think. At present there are 17 people on Google+ that I want to be friends with. That’s like deciding if you like a book based on one paragraph.

But on a platform that I already live on (Chrome. Gmail. Google Calendar. Google Docs.), and with features I’ve been hacking for years on other software, I’m looking forward to this.

It’s about time you got it right, Google.

BTW, no, I haven’t been granted any invites yet, but will share as soon as I have.
