Less than one year out from the next presidential election, a comedian’s character is leading some polls as the most favorably viewed Republican candidate.
This is like PeeWee Herman being elected superintendent of schools. Larry the Cable Guy being elected mayor. Lauren Cooper winning a scholarship.
Except those things would not happen. Because those are not real people. They do not exist.
Then how is Stephen Colbert doing it? It’s because we are so desperate for somebody who will actually speak up and be sensible without falling into the chasm of political squabbling, that we don’t even care if that person isn’t real.Â
Stephen Colbert is delightful, but why stop there? I want Superman for President. Dean Cain, are you up for it? How about God? Is Morgan Freeman busy?
